  • Building sites are in the magnificent highlands of Guatemala, 30-40 minutes from Antigua. The home builds include a wide range of physical tasks, and are under the supervision of masons employed by the organization. The only ask is that everyone contributes to the best of their ability!

Teens have a particularly enjoyable time participating in both the building process and engaging with the local children on the worksite. By traveling to this diverse destination, your child gets to experience our cultural differences, but most importantly, our core similarities.

  • In the weeks leading up to your trip, you’ll be given optional resources and activities to learn about Guatemala and get inspired for your trip.

March 15th: Hola! Arrive in Guatemala City and transfer to Antigua.

March 16th: Enjoy an optional activity such as climbing a volcano, a cooking class, touring a coffee plantation, or zip-lining.

March 17th: Begin your work with From Houses to Homes. You’ll dig foundation, mix the mortar, and lay rows of blocks. The day starts at 8:30-9:00 am until about 4pm.

March 18th and 19th: Mix mortar & build 6 rows of blocks.

March 20th: A shorter build day with a visit to Escuela Kemna’oj, the school built and operated by From Houses to Homes. Afterwards, you’ll return to the worksite and pour in the floor.

March 21st: While volunteers paint the inside and outside of the home with bright colors chosen by the homeowners, our masons install the door, window and roof. A dedication ceremony will be held at the end of the day and volunteers will present the key to the family’s new home!

March 22nd: Adios! Depart Antigua and Guatemala City.

The month after your trip, Journee the World will provide mementos including a photo album of your trip.
